Summary
Set in 1956, the coldest year of the Cold War, the film follows Karcsi (Iván Fenyő), the hot-headed star of Hungary’s Olympic water polo team, and his best friend Tibi (Sándor Csányi). While the team trains for the Melbourne Olympics, university students in Budapest organize resistance against Soviet domination and the secret police. After witnessing a student demonstration, Karcsi becomes intrigued by the fiery student Viki (Kata Dobó) and follows her. He soon finds himself in the middle of the Hungarian Revolution, as a peaceful protest turns into bloody combat, with students, children, and housewives fighting Soviet tanks.
